The beach of Melidoni at Kythera. La plage de Melidoni au Cythère

Sometimes, the northern winds blowing at the island of Kythera were so strong, and the waves so high, that if one wanted to swim in the sea, one would have to find a south facing beach. We were lucky as many beautiful small coves are facing south. Like this one at a place called "Melidoni" It is small, with clean golden sand the size of rice or a little smaller. You could really enjoy being there. Still you could not use an umbrella.. The wind would blow it away to Crete to the south. And some times also.. you could feel the sand blown by the wind with force on your back.

The colors of the sand and water are so different from our gulf coast beaches. They are like paintings. Your photos are wonderful. I like seeing the "rock" in the distance! :) It all looks so calm and peaceful it is hard for me to imagine such rough winds there.

Wonderful photos, Costas! I like these kind of places: small coves, almost deserted, with a sand not so fine, and the wonderful water of a peaceful sea. We always look for them. Unfortunately, the vacation this year was in more crowded places. I miss Greek islands a lot.

The assorted colours of the water, the grains of sand, the seaweed and plant growth are all such beautiful scenes of the beauty in nature, that I long to take in. Thank you for sharing these beauties with each of us. Have a marvelous week Costas~
